How to Add Amazon Products to WordPress Without a Plugin

Quick answer: You can add Amazon products to WordPress without a plugin. Copy a tagged link from SiteStripe or the Amazon app, or write one yourself with your Associate ID, then put it in a product card built from core blocks with your own photo. What you can't do by hand is show a price, use photos copied from Amazon or Amazon's star ratings, keep cards current without checking each one, or let readers search for products you didn't pick.
The review is written. Now you want the product in the post: a photo, a few lines on why it's good, and a button that earns you the commission. Most guides answer that with a plugin. This one starts with the manual route, because for a site with a handful of products it works and costs nothing.
It has limits, though, and most of them have nothing to do with effort. They're Amazon's rules. Below are the manual methods that still work, two rules that apply either way, and the four things you give up by doing it all by hand.
Every Amazon rule quoted here was read on Amazon's own policy and help pages on October 22, 2026. Amazon edits those pages, so check again before you lean on one.
How to add Amazon products to WordPress without a plugin
Every method ends in the same place: a link carrying your Associates ID. Amazon's program policies require that ID as a parameter in every link you place to Amazon, and they put the formatting on you. You are "solely responsible for the content, style, and placement of each link that you place on your Site."
1. SiteStripe text links on desktop
SiteStripe is the bar Amazon shows across the top of its pages when you're signed in with your Associates account. If it's missing, check which account you're signed in with. You can switch it on or off from the bar's settings icon, or under Account Settings in Associates Central.
- Sign in to Amazon with your Associates account.
- Open the product's own page. SiteStripe only builds a link to a specific product while you're viewing that product.
- Click Get Link: Text on the bar.
- Choose the short or long link, and the tracking ID if you use more than one. The short link already carries your Associate ID and tracking ID.
- Copy it. In WordPress, select your anchor text, press the link button and paste.
Amazon's current SiteStripe help page lists only text links. The image link options were retired at the end of 2023, which comes up again below. If you're mostly weighing SiteStripe against a paid tool on cost, we ran those numbers in Amazon affiliate plugin vs SiteStripe.
2. GetLink in the Amazon app
Sign in to the Amazon shopping app with your Associates account, open a product page, tap the Share button and choose Copy Associates Link. Amazon switches this on automatically when you log in with your Associates account. It only works on product detail pages, and not for eBooks, Audible, digital magazines, digital music or luxury stores (Mobile GetLink help).
3. Write the link yourself
If you already know the ASIN, the product ID that follows /dp/ in an Amazon product URL, you can type the link. Amazon's policies say these links "may be created by you or made available to you by us." A clean pattern looks like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ASIN?tag=yourtag-20
Swap in the real ASIN and your own tag. Test it without clicking: hover the link and check that
tag= shows your ID. When you want to look at the product, open the bare amazon.com/dp/ URL instead
of clicking your own tagged link again and again.
4. A product card from core blocks
A row of text links reads like a list of links. A card gives the product some room, and the block editor already has the parts.
- Add a Columns block with two columns.
- In the narrow column, add an Image block with a photo you took yourself.
- In the wide column, add a heading with the product name and a paragraph on why you picked it and who it suits.
- Add a Buttons block, label it "View on Amazon" and paste your tagged link.
Leave out a price you typed, Amazon's star rating, and any image saved from the Amazon page. The four give-ups below explain why.
To reuse the layout, save the card as a pattern, and leave it unsynced if each copy will hold a different product. A synced pattern repeats the same content everywhere: "Editing the synced pattern will update it anywhere it is used." That makes it the wrong tool for product cards and a good one for your disclosure line.
What no longer works. Amazon retired Native Shopping Ads in 2023 (what replaces them). It also retired its widgets, the search widget included, between March 1 and April 1, 2022; old widget code now shows a blank space or nothing (widgets FAQ). WordPress has an Amazon Kindle embed meant for book previews, which is not an affiliate product card. Associates Central also has a link builder, but Amazon now points people to SiteStripe for product links.
Two rules that apply with or without a plugin
Neither of these is a reason to pick a tool. They're the same on every route.
Disclose. Amazon's Operating Agreement requires you to "clearly and prominently" state "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." or a substantially similar statement Amazon has previously allowed. The policies also make you responsible for legal disclosure rules and name the FTC's endorsement guides as one example.
Make it obvious the link goes to Amazon. You may not "cloak, hide, spoof, or otherwise obscure" your site's URL so Amazon can't tell where a click came from, or use a link shortener, button or other placement "in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site." Amazon's own SiteStripe short links are fine. A button that says "View on Amazon" or "Check price on Amazon" covers the second part.
The four things you give up without a plugin
Each of these traces to an Amazon rule or something Amazon retired. Working harder only helps with the third, and only for as long as you keep doing it.
When doing it by hand is the right call
Manual is a sensible choice if you recommend a small set of products and revisit those posts anyway, or if your own photos and opinions are the reason people read you. It also suits a brand-new Associates account, while you're still finding out what sells. In that case, read the 180-day rule before anything else.
It gets expensive when the product count grows, when readers come for prices, or when you want the page to sell things you never wrote about.
What a plugin changes, and what it still can't do
This is where we come in, so weigh this section with that in mind. PaapiPlugin puts Amazon products on your pages as product boxes and comparison tables (paid add-ons) and product grids, and it adds live Amazon search on your own pages.
You can start on the Managed API, with no credentials needed yet. Setup is your Associate tag and an email address, on top of the free Amazon Associates account you already have. Your tag goes on every product link, and we never add our own. When you have your own Creators API credentials, connect them and carry on.
On the Managed API, PaapiPlugin doesn't show a price either. Price, "Was" price, savings percentage and low-stock signals are all off, and the button always reads "Check price on Amazon," so Amazon shows the reader the live price. Live prices on your own page need your own Creators API credentials. The Managed API covers 9 Amazon stores: US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, Japan and Australia. India and Sweden work with your own credentials.
The four give-ups, by route
| By hand | PaapiPlugin, Managed API | PaapiPlugin, your Creators API credentials | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price and stock on your page | Not allowed | No. The button sends readers to Amazon for the price | Yes, live |
| Product images | Your own photos | Come with the product data; you never download or re-host one | Same as Managed |
| Keeping products current | By hand, post by post | Refreshed automatically; product details cached for up to an hour | Same as Managed |
| Amazon search on your page | Not available | Yes, free | Yes, free |
The disclosure and link rules above apply on every route.
Each piece is a shortcode. Search goes anywhere with [psfa_search] (how the search shortcode works). A fixed grid for one keyword,
without the search bar, looks like this:
[psfa_search query="standing desk" count="6" pagination="none" hide_search="true" hide_filters="true"]
A single product box takes an ASIN, the same ID that sits after /dp/ in the links you've been building:
[psfa_product_box asin="B09XS7JWHH"]
Our roundups of product box plugins and Amazon comparison tables in WordPress cover both formats in more depth.
The free version is on WordPress.org and includes search, grids and 600 Managed API searches a month, 20 a day. Premium is $39 a year for one site, $69 for three and $99 for unlimited sites. Product Boxes and Comparison Tables are $19 a year each, need Premium, and cover all of a license's sites. If free is your hard limit, our free plugin roundup compares the options.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add Amazon products to WordPress without a plugin?
Yes. Copy a tagged link from SiteStripe or the Amazon app, or write one with your Associate ID, and put it in a card built from core blocks with your own photo. You can't show prices, Amazon's star ratings or photos copied from Amazon.
Can I type the Amazon price into my post?
No. Amazon allows prices only when Amazon serves the link that displays them or you get the data through its product API and follow those terms. A typed price meets neither, so let the button send readers to Amazon.
Can I use the product photos from Amazon's product page?
Amazon's policies give no permission to download and re-host them, and SiteStripe's image links were retired at the end of 2023. Use your own photos.
Do I need an affiliate disclosure if I add links by hand?
Yes, on every route. Amazon requires you to clearly and prominently state "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." or a substantially similar statement Amazon has allowed.
Does PaapiPlugin show live Amazon prices?
Only with your own Creators API credentials. On the Managed API, the button reads "Check price on Amazon" and Amazon shows the reader the live price.
Keep your links, drop the upkeep
Install PaapiPlugin free and start on the Managed API, with no credentials needed yet: add your Associate tag and email, drop [psfa_search] on a page, and search is live. Connect your own Creators API credentials when you want live prices on the page. Premium starts at $39 a year.
